Effective Machine Intelligence

Definition

We define an effective system is one that solves the problem at hand in the short term, and that is sustainable, durable and viable in the long term. Conversely, a system that solves the problem inconsistently, and destroys your long term prospects is not effective.

Mandate

The frontier labs create models that expose a jagged frontier of seemingly exceptional value. They advance many of the traits for effective intelligence. Nevertheless, the most critical traits are remarkably underdeveloped, perhaps by design since their approach is well aligned to their incentives and grievously misaligned to that of their users. And to the rest of humanity. For AI to create value and be a net positive for most constituents, deficits in sovereignty and controllability, at the minimum, need to be resolved. Advancing such critical traits, such that the technology and its benefits are democratized is our mandate.

We, as the humans behind Luga Labs, believe in maximal human autonomy, sovereignty and individual rights. We are against consolidation of power, however benevolent the actors who seek that power may be, whether human or machine.
